Hermann von Zeller

Karl Hermann Zeller , from 1894 by Zeller , (born August 1, 1849 in Döffingen ; † January 22, 1937 in Stuttgart ) was a German lawyer and president of the consistory and church government of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

Life and work

After finishing school, Hermann Zeller studied law and political science in Tübingen , where he became a member of the Normannia Association in 1870 . From 1876 he was a secretary at the Forestry Directorate, from 1877 in the Württemberg Department of Finance, where he rose to the position of Ministerialrat. In 1895 he took over the management of the State Statistical Office in Württemberg. In 1904 he became head of the tax college and received the title of president. On January 1, 1913 , von Zeller was appointed President of the Consistory. As at the end of the First World War the " sovereign church regiment"fell away and the Protestant regional church thus had no regional bishop (" summus episcopus "), von Zeller took over the provisional church government of the Evangelical regional church in Württemberg until it adopted a new constitution and in 1924 Johannes von Merz became the first church president of the regional church Von Zeller also represented the Württemberg regional church at the German Evangelical Church Conference and the preliminary conference in Kassel in 1919. He was also a representative in the 1st German Evangelical Church Congress in Dresden in 1919 and in Stuttgart in 1921 as well as in the 1st and 2nd German Evangelical Church Committee.

Von Zeller was also a member of the Württemberg regional synod several times . In the VI. Synod he was chairman of the commission for economic objects. He presided over the 7th and 8th synods as president until he left in 1912. His successor as synod president was Karl von Haffner .

In his capacity as President of the Evangelical Regional Synod from 1906 to 1912 and as President of the Evangelical Consistory from 1913 to 1918, von Zeller was a member of the First Chamber of the Württemberg Land Estates , which was also known as the Chamber of Classes.

In addition to his full-time work in the consistory, von Zeller also held several honorary positions. Among other things, he was on the central committee of the Association for the Welfare of Released Prisoners, on the Administrative Council of the Evangelical Diakonissenanstalt Stuttgart and in the Evangelical Press Association.
