Hermann von Habermaas

Hermann Habermaas , from 1898 by Habermaas (born March 5, 1856 in Stuttgart ; † April 1, 1938 ibid) was a German lawyer and politician and president of the consistory of the Evangelical Church in Württemberg .

Life and work

Hermann Habermaas went to school in Stuttgart. He then studied law at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . There he was a member of the Academic Society Stuttgardia Tübingen . He finished his studies in 1886 and received his doctorate. jur. Then he was a district judge in Cannstatt and then a district judge in Heilbronn . In 1893 he was appointed to the Württemberg Ministry of Churches and Schools as a councilor, where he was promoted to ministerial director until 1906. From 1900 to 1910 Habermaas was President of the Government Commissioner of the Israelite Higher Church Authority. On May 24, 1910, he succeeded Viktor von Sandberger as president of the Protestant consistory in Stuttgart. On December 21, 1912 Hermann von Habermaas was appointed Minister of State for the Church and School System, and he held this office until March 31, 1918. In 1918 he asked for his retirement after he had fallen into a minority position in the ministry on the question of the admission of Catholic male orders. His successor as President of the Consistory was Karl Hermann von Zeller in 1913 .

With the position as President of the Evangelical Consistory, a mandate in the First Chamber of the Württemberg State Parliament was automatically connected. But Habermaas only held this office from 1910 until he was appointed Minister of Culture in 1912.
