Karl von Haffner

Karl Ernst Friedrich Alexander von Haffner (born November 10, 1855 in Stuttgart ; † July 25, 1944 there ) was a Württemberg lawyer and president of the State Statistical Office in Württemberg.

Life and work

Karl Haffner studied law in Tübingen , where he was a member of the Normannia fraternity from 1873 . From 1907 to 1914 Karl von Haffner was director of the Royal Statistical Office in Württemberg and then until 1922 the first President of the (republican) Württemberg Statistical Office. As a non-judicial member, he was a member of the Competence Court and the Disciplinary Court. He was also head of the Württembergische Sparkasse.

Von Haffner was also a member of the Württemberg regional synod . He was President of the 8th Synod from 1913 to 1919. He was then president of the regional church assembly from 1919 to 1924. In his capacity as President of the Evangelical State Synod from 1913 to 1918, von Haffner was a member of the First Chamber of the Württemberg Land Estates , which was also known as the Chamber of the Landlords. He was head of the Württemberg Red Cross.

Karl von Haffner was killed with his daughter Johanna in an air raid on Stuttgart in 1944. He was buried in the Fangelsbach cemetery. Karl von Haffner was the bearer of the Commentary Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown , the Commentary Cross of the Order of Frederick and the Royal Prussian Crown Order II class.
