The worsted spinning mill near the center of the city of Kaiserslautern was founded in 1857 and went bankrupt in 1981. On the site with the tall chimney, which is one of the city's landmarks, there is now a department of the Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences , the Kaiserslautern Garden Show (emerged from the State Garden Show 2000) and Kammgarn GmbH, whose main owner is the City of Kaiserslautern. The site is a listed building.

The city's Kammgarn GmbH organizes concerts and cultural events all year round on the premises and in the Kammgarn cultural center. A hall and two bars are available for this purpose.

A jazz and blues festival takes place every year.
