Kamptee is a city in the Indian state of Maharashtra . The city belongs to the metropolitan area of Nagpur .
The city is part of the Nagpur District . Kamptee has the status of a Municipal Council . The city is divided into 33 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census it had 86,793 inhabitants, of which 43,470 were men and 43,323 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 43%. Muslims have a share of 34%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 89.57%, well above the national average.
The city was founded in 1821 as a military canton, which was named Camp T. Today the place is still a base of the Indian armed forces .
