Gap channel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gap Canal is an irrigation canal that carries water from the Drac River into the valley of the Luye River near Gap .

The canal was built from 1864 to 1880 and restored around 1954.

From a water intake in the Champsaur valley near the village of Pont-du-Fossé , the canal leads through a 4-kilometer tunnel under the Col de Manse pass to a reservoir at Les Jaussauds above Gap. One branch of the canal leads from there along the mountainside towards the southwest to the Charance domain and into the agricultural area of Les Moines and the other branch to the northeast.

In 2015 the water intake was rebuilt and equipped with a fish passage and a new bed load passage.
