Sewer construction

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The sewer is a division of the construction industry, especially the civil engineering that primarily focuses on the manufacture and maintenance of public and private drains and sewers. Canal construction is differentiated from earthworks , pipeline construction and tunnel construction . Canal construction is not understood to mean the construction of open irrigation and drainage canals or the construction of canals for shipping, but rather the construction of closed, underground drainage pipes for sewage and rainwater drainage.

Parts of the sewer construction

  • Open sewer construction: In open sewer construction, a trench is dug with an excavator and pipelines are laid in it and the associated shaft structures are built. The trenches are embanked or built with sheeting . Today, the pipelines are usually made of concrete , PVC or fiber composite plastics . In the past, the pipelines were also bricked or made of clay, steel, cast and fiber cement .
  • Trenchless sewer construction: Trenchless sewer construction includes several methods, such as the trenchless laying of canals with controllable methods but also various methods of microtunnelling and tunneling (for example with open, controllable shields , without or with compressed air or methods with auger or Flushing conveyance).
  • Cleaning, inspection, leak testing and renovation (e.g. with hose liners ) of sewer pipes and sewers of all materials and nominal widths and the associated structures

Canal construction company

The companies specializing in sewer construction in Germany usually belong to the Main Association of the German Construction Industry or the Central Association of the German Construction Industry , usually have fewer than 99 employees and are predominantly regional.

Quality protection in sewer construction

Sewer construction is regulated by numerous standards and regulations. Particularly noteworthy are:

  • The general technical contract conditions for construction works (VOB / B), DIN 18306 drainage sewer works,
  • The general technical contract conditions for construction work (VOB / B), DIN 18319 pipe jacking work
  • The quality assurance channel construction RAL -GZ 961, production and maintenance of sewer pipes and sewers, April 2012 edition
