Kang Woo-seok (born November 10, 1960 in Gyeongsan , Gyeonggi-do Province ) sometimes written as Kang Woo-suk , is a South Korean director and producer of commercially oriented films. In 1999 he was voted the most influential man in the South Korean film industry by the film magazine Cine21 . His major production company Cinemaservice was acquired by CJ Entertainment in 2004 .

Life

As a director, he had his greatest successes in 1994 with Two Cops and in 2004 with Silmido, at the time the most successful South Korean film of all time with over 10 million viewers. The Public Enemy series about an idiosyncratic police officer is sometimes compared to Dirty Harry .

A lawsuit brought by relatives of members of the Silmido, code name of Command Unit 684 for Infiltration of North Korea, was dismissed in 2005.
