history

The university was founded in August 1946 as the Theological Institute Chung-ang ( 중앙 신학원 , German "Central Theological Institute") by Rev. Yi Ho-bin ( 이호빈 , 1898–1989). In 1948 it was renamed the Chung-ang Theological School. At that time she offered a 4-year course. In June 1953, the Welfare Department was established, the first of its kind in South Korea. In 1974 she moved to Gangnam-gu , Seoul, and was therefore renamed the Kangnam Welfare School ( 강남 사회 복지 학교 ) in 1976 . In March 1980, she moved to today's Yongin campus.

On October 27, 1989, it became the Kangnam College with three faculties (Faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Arts). On April 1, 1992, it received university status and its current name.

In March 2005, the “German School of Music Weimar” ( 독일 바이마르 음악 학부 ) was founded in cooperation with the Liszt School of Music Weimar with the aim of offering music students a highly concentrated degree. The future goal is to enrich the students with an exchange year at their parent university in Weimar.
