history

Some old parcels were named "Stadtgarten" as early as 1886. The cadastral map from 1910 shows part of the current area as “ Immanuel Kant Park”. In 1925 the park was opened to the public. It was badly damaged during the Second World War . The repair of the damage went hand in hand with the purchase of further properties by the city of Duisburg. At the end of the 1960s, the park was redesigned and expanded.

In 1990 the city of Duisburg gave part of the park to the Lehmbruck Museum for use. The publicly accessible sculpture garden shows over 40 permanent and temporary sculptures by international artists.

On July 14th, 2012 an action called “WISHMOB for ART-fair attitude” took place in Kant-Park. The exhibited works of art were freed from graffiti with a special sandblasting device, swept and rubbish collected.
