The canton of Volkmarsen was an administrative unit in the Cassel district of the Fulda department in the Napoleonic Kingdom of Westphalia . The city of Volkmarsen in today's Waldeck-Frankenberg district was the capital of the canton and seat of the justice of the peace . The canton covered not only the city Volkmarsen six villages and hamlets inhabited by 5092 inhabitants and had 917 fires (housing units) in an area of 1.82 square miles .

The canton was dissolved after the area fell to the Kingdom of Prussia through the Congress of Vienna .
