Basel-Stadt canton police

The Basel-Stadt canton police are the police for the canton of Basel-Stadt . Due to the special administrative structure of the city-canton with two rural communities, the Basel-Stadt canton police have to perform police tasks for the Basel community and the communities of Riehen and Bettingen, so it is a community and canton police in one.

history

In 1978, the military administration, the fire brigade (formerly extinguishing systems) and the Office for General Defense were integrated into the Police Department and renamed the Police and Military Department. Before that, the departments mentioned were subordinate to the military director. This office was tied to one of the seven councilors, at times to the one who headed the police department. On January 1, 2005, the Police and Military Department (PMD) became the Security Department (SiD). After a further reorganization in 2008, the Security Department became today's Justice and Security Department (JSD).

Police stations

The Basel-Stadt canton police have two police stations (Clara and Kannenfeld), five police stations (Riehen, Spiegelhof, Gundeldingen, SBB railway station and Bettingen) and two bases (motorway police and emergency train). With the exception of the Horburg base (emergency train), all have a customer zone (counter operation). The customer zone of the Clara police station is the only one that is open 24 hours a day.
