The Canoe Club Wiking was founded on October 20, 1951 in Bochum. The clubhouse is located near the old ferry Diergaardt an der Ruhr in Bochum district Stiepel . KC Wiking has been canoeing for decades and is one of the most successful canoe clubs in North Rhine-Westphalia.

In the canoe and kayak disciplines , the KCW athletes have won over 70 German championship titles, 3 world championship titles and 6 European championship titles over the past 30 years. In the years 2005-2008, the club provided the majority of the eight-canoe team of the KV-NRW racing community, which became German champions four times in a row.

The outstanding athletes at KC Wiking include Ute Ulm (European champion in K2, vice world champion in K2), Stephan Breuing (multiple world and European champion in C2 and C4), Lara Daniel (European champion in K4), Christopher Czech (vice world champion in C4) and Matthias Ebhardt (World Champion in C1 in the Canoe Marathon 2011, Vice European Champion in C1, Bronze World Championships in Canoe Marathon in C1).
