Kanye is a city in Botswana with 47,007 inhabitants ( 2011 census ).
It is on the Trans-Kalahari Highway , near Gaborone and Lobatse .
The so-called Bangwaketse State emerged around the city at the beginning of the 19th century , under whose protection the Barolong fled from persecution by the Boers .
An 80-minute documentary about the Bangwaketse royal family was shot in Kanye between 2003 and 2005. It was rented under the title The Queen's Courtyard .
