Cape Gazert is a cape on the west coast of Heard Island . It lies at the end of a rocky headland that forms the south side of South West Bay .
The cape is shown as Green Point on maps by US sealer captain H. C. Chester from 1860 . The name that is valid today goes back to the German Gauss expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of polar explorer Erich von Drygalski . It is named after Hans Gazert (1870–1961), doctor of the research trip .
