The South West Bay ( English for southwest bay ) is an open bay on the west coast of the island of Heard in the southern Indian Ocean . It is located immediately north of Cape Gazert .
The bay appears for the first time on maps of the US seal catcher captain HC Chester from 1860. The name SW Bay can be found on a map that the Lieutenant and later Captain Washington Irving Chambers (1856-1934) made during a trip with the USS Marion to Heard Island in January 1882.
