The Vahsel Glacier is a glacier to the west of Heard Island in the southern Indian Ocean . It flows west to South West Bay .
Participants in the German Gauss expedition (1901–1903) under the direction of Erich von Drygalski carried out a rough mapping in 1902. Drygalski named him after Richard Vahsel (1868-1912), who was involved in this research trip and in investigations of the neighboring Atlas Cove .
