Eckhard Rebhan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eckhard Rebhan (born October 31, 1937 in Nuremberg ) is a German theoretical physicist.

Rebhan studied physics from 1956 at the University of Erlangen and from 1959 at the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich with a diploma in 1963 and a doctorate in Munich 1965. From 1963 he was at the Max Planck Institute for Physics in Garching near Munich, where he from 1970 also gave lectures at the University of Munich. In 1968/69 he was at the Courant Institute in New York. From 1977 until his retirement in 2003 he was professor of theoretical physics at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf .

He was visiting professor at the University of British Columbia (1995) and visiting scholar at the Free University of Brussels, the University of Texas at Austin , the Joint European Torus in Culham and at Brown University .

He dealt mainly with plasma physics and magnetohydrodynamics and wrote a popular science book about them. Rebhan has been a member of the Energy Working Group of the German Physical Society since 2004 and has also published an energy manual .

He wrote a series of textbooks on theoretical physics that was published by Springer-Spektrum. He should not be confused with the Austrian physics professor at the Vienna University of Technology, Anton Rebhan , who is also the co-author of a series of textbooks on theoretical physics at the same publisher.
