Cape Kolka (dt. (Outdated) Domesnes , Lat. Kolkas rags ) is the northernmost point of the Kurland peninsula . Here is the border between the Baltic Sea and the Bay of Riga . Due to its exposed location, Cape Kolka is the only place in Latvia where you can watch both the sunrise and the sunset in the sea.

The cape was mentioned in writing as early as 1000 . On the Runestone Mervalla is a trip to the Vikings after Semgallen reported around Cape "Domesnäs".

In ancient times, large campfires were used here to warn seafarers. At the end of the 19th century a 21 meter high lighthouse was built on an artificial island.

The place is of particular interest to bird watchers as it is a gathering point for migratory birds . Up to 50,000 birds fly by here every day in April. The cape and the town of Kolka are located in the Slītere National Park and are a popular destination for tourists.
