Wimy has a fortified church typical of the Thiérache border region . The medieval church of St. Martin was fortified between 1578 and 1585. It thus offered the village population protection from marauding mercenary gangs that raided the villages of the French border region at the time of the Eighty Years' War . The church is classified as a monument historique .
