Wimy is a French municipality with 487 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France ; it belongs to the arrondissement Vervins , the canton Hirson and the municipality association Trois Rivières .

geography

The municipality of Wimy is located in the Thiérache , about five kilometers west of Hirson near the border with Belgium . The southern boundary of the municipality is marked by the upper Oise .

Attractions

Wimy has a fortified church typical of the Thiérache border region . The medieval church of St. Martin was fortified between 1578 and 1585. It thus offered the village population protection from marauding mercenary gangs that raided the villages of the French border region at the time of the Eighty Years' War . The church is classified as a monument historique .
