Archon is a French municipality with 87 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Aisne in the region of Hauts-de-France (before 2016 Picardy ). It belongs to Arrondissement Vervins , the Canton of Vervins (2015 Rozoy-sur-Serre ) and the Association of Municipalities Portes de la Thiérache . The place name means: "Small bridge arch" or "Bridge with small arches".

Archon is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Morgny-en-Thiérache in the west, Cuiry-lès-Iviers in the northwest, Dohis in the northeast, Parfondeval in the east, Rozoy-sur-Serre in the southeast, Chéry-lès-Rozoy in the south and Dolignon in the southwest.

history

The municipality was incorporated into the Arrondissement Vervins on January 1, 2017 by decree of the prefecture from the Arrondissement Laon .
