La Vallée-au-Blé is a French commune with 365 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Aisne department of the Picardy region . Its inhabitants are called Vallibladiens.

geography

The municipality of La Vallée-au-Blé is located in northern France, about 20 kilometers from the Belgian border and about 40 kilometers east of Saint-Quentin .

Neighboring municipalities of La Vallée-au-Blé are Marly-Gomont in the north, Haution in the east, Voulpaix in the south-east and Lemé in the south-west. Le Sourd in the west and Proisy in the northwest (point of contact).

Geology and relief

La Vallée-au-Blé is a municipality in the Thiérache in the Seine river basin ; the landscape is dominated by trees. The community lies on a plateau between 164 and 186 meters above sea level. The plateau originated in the Upper Chalk . The seismic risk is low. In the southwest of the commune is the le bois de la Cailleuse forest , part of which belongs to the commune of Lemé .

In La Vallée-au-Blé, as in the entire Picardy region, there is a temperate maritime climate . The weather record is very similar to that of Vervins.

history

La Vallée-aux-Bleds was separated from the parishes of Lemé and Voulpaix in 1829 and re-established. On June 21, 1961, the municipality name La Vallée-aux-Bleds was changed to La Vallée-au-Blé.

Saint-Michel church

Saint-Michel church

The church of La Vallée-au-Blé is dedicated to the Archangel Michael . It was built in 1957 on the site of the previous church, which was destroyed by a plane crash on the night of May 17-18, 1940. Compared to the previous building, the new building no longer has a transept.

Town hall and ballroom

The town hall and ballroom are in the same building, which was built in 1952. Its predecessor building in the same place was also destroyed by a plane crash at the beginning of the Second World War.

La Vallée-au-Blé is located on the secondary road D 960 (Vervins-Guise-Cambrai) , about eight kilometers west of Vervins and around 13 kilometers southeast of Guise . In addition, the D 492 crosses the village, which leads to Lemé and Haution .

Waterworks

A waterworks was built by the municipality in the early 1960s. It supplies the municipality as well as the municipalities of Voulpaix and Lemé .

Retirement home

La Vallée-au-Blé has a senior citizens' home with 84 beds, which was built between 2006 and 2008 on the site of the previous building (closed at the beginning of the 2000s). The home can take in people with Alzheimer's disease.

Personalities

  • Jean Dagnaux , a French fighter pilot, crashed his plane in La Vallée-au-Blé on the night of 17-18 May 1940 and died in the process.
  • The Garin family played an important role in La Vallée-au-blé by setting up an agricultural machinery factory.
