Origin of name

The part of the name Estrées is an old French term which, derived from the Latin strata , means "flat stone-covered road". The word estrée disappeared from French at the end of the Middle Ages , but remained in a variety of place names, particularly in northern France, as an indication of the proximity of a Roman road. The place "Froid-Estrez" is written on the Cassini map from the 18th century.
