Cape Valavielle ( French Cap Valavielle ) is a cape on the north coast of Laurie Island in the archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It lies at the northern end of the Watson Peninsula and marks the western limit of the entrance to Marr Bay .
The cape was mapped in February 1838 during the Antarctic expedition (1837-1940) of the French polar explorer Jules Dumont d'Urville . The further naming background has not been passed down. On the map from 1903 the cape is still marked as Cape Buchanan . A Cape Vallavielle ( misspelling ) is drawn further east on this map.
