Johannes Curth

Johannes Curth (born June 17, 1899 in Leipzig ; † August 11, 1983 ibid) was a German actor and director .

Life

From 1915 to 1917 Johannes Curth had private acting lessons in his hometown, and in 1918 he appeared on stage for the first time in Kolmar. Engagements at theaters in Ingolstadt, Leipzig, Stargard and Tilsit followed. From 1926 Curth worked at the Berlin theaters, namely at the Small Theater, the Trianon Theater and the Rotter theaters . In the 1930s he played in Bautzen and again in Leipzig, from 1950 to 1952 he was a member of the Berliner Ensemble . In 1953 Curth staged the world premiere of the play Der Fall Merzbach by Horst Ulrich Wendler at the Erfurt Municipal Theaters . He then worked for 20 years at the Städtische Bühnen in Leipzig as an actor and senior stage director, where he ended his stage career after he had been awarded honorary membership.

From the mid-1950s onwards, Curth could occasionally be seen on screen and on screen, mostly in smaller roles. He also worked for radio and as a voice actor.

Johannes Curth was married several times, most recently with his colleague Walpurgis Brückner (1928–2008) until his death. His sister Thea Achenwall was also an actress. Parts of Curth's estate, his wife and his sister are administered by the Leipzig City Archives.

Trivia

In his memoirs soberly considered , the actor Rolf Ludwig reports that Curth's directorial work was limited in part to instructions such as: “Don't worry about the play! Learn the text! There is a door to the left to enter, a second door opposite, and a third one behind, through which one can exit. Everything else to the test. So three holes to disappear, I'll do the rest. "
