ITTF World Tour 2017 German Open GETEC Arena
The mode has changed compared to last year. The participating players were able to play in 12 different qualifying tournaments, which were divided into two categories - World Tour and World Tour Platinum. In each tournament there was a singles, doubles and U-21 competition for men and women. Depending on the category and the placement achieved, points were distributed, with the players with the most points qualifying for the Grand Finals. In the singles, 16 players qualified, each of whom had to take part in at least 5 tournaments, in doubles, 8 pairs who had to take part in 4 tournaments in the same line-up. Unlike in previous years, there was no U-21 competition at the Grand Finals, instead the four top-placed U-21 players received additional prize money. A seat was reserved for a player or a double from the host country of the Grand Finals, if someone was present who met the entry criteria.
Regardless of this, there were also 11 tournaments of the Challenge Series.
