The Cape Wilkins is the northern rocky cape of the island Foldøya off the coast of the East Antarctic Kemplands . It limits the entrance to Stefansson Bay to the east .
The cape was discovered on February 18, 1931 during the British Australian and New Zealand Antarctic Research Expedition (BANZARE, 1929–1931) led by the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson . Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations carried out a map in February 1936. Norwegian cartographers mapped the cape again using aerial photographs taken between January and February 1937 during the Lars Christensen expedition in 1936/37 . Mawson initially named the formation as Cape Hearst in recognition of support from publishing company Hearst Press . He later agreed to the naming after the Australian polar explorer Hubert Wilkins (1888-1858).
