Cape and lighthouse

The chalk cliffs of the cape have a height of up to 130 m and have been the location of a lighthouse since the 1890s. The original Phare d'Antifer was destroyed in World War II and replaced by the current reinforced concrete tower in the 1950s.

The wind conditions at the cape and harbor make this stretch of coast particularly attractive for windsurfers. The nearest sandy beach can be reached via the village of Saint-Jouin-Bruneval.

Port facility

About three kilometers south of the cape, a port facility for super tankers was built in 1975 on the territory of the neighboring municipality of Saint-Jouin-Bruneval , which can reload oil onto smaller ships here. There are tank farms on the beach and a 3.5 km long pier protects the harbor.

Others

The name of the cape probably inspired Jules Verne to write his novel Master Antifers Wonderful Adventures . In 1942, a British parachute unit succeeded in destroying a German Würzburg radar station during Operation Biting near the town of Bruneval, north of the port, and captured important parts.
