The Palzinger Chapel is a small path chapel . It was built in 1890 on the south-eastern outskirts of Palzing not far from the Hütgrabenbach .

description

The simple building has neo-Gothic elements. In the prayer room, in an altar-like pointed arch, there is a seated figure of Mary about 90 centimeters high , with the baby Jesus on her lap . The arch is flanked by two insignificantly smaller, wooden angel figures.

Legend

The chapel was built by the farmer Walburga Neumair. She lived in Palzing with her husband Lorenz Neumair and their six to seven children. After slaughtering an anthrax- infected cow, Walburga Neumair became seriously ill herself. According to tradition, one arm turned black and a bulb formed under the shoulder. In her need and fear of no longer being able to raise her children, Neumair prayed to the Mother of God. She vowed to build a chapel in her honor, if only she would let the mother of the children.

In fact, Walburga Neumair's health improved. In the following years she put money aside from her meager income for the construction of the chapel. When in 1890 300 marks had been raised, Neumair kept her promise. Through the mediation of her daughter Theresia, she received a statue of Mary from Freising Cathedral , which became a central element of the interior.

Neumair reached the old age of 87 and after her death found her final resting place next to her husband and son Georg in the Palzingen cemetery.
