history

In 1899 the construction of the chapel in Farnach began. There was no previous building. The shell with bells is said to have cost 2,400 guilders . The chapel was consecrated on May 8, 1901.

Bells purchased: 1899, 1920s, 1949. The chapel was extensively renovated in 1982.

Church building

The chapel is in the center of Farnach. It is a building with an approximately rectangular basic shape and east-west orientation. To the east (altar) the outer walls are sloping. The simple door and the square bell ridge on the gable roof are to the west. The gable roof is covered with plain tiles and the bell ridge is hammered in with sheet copper.

The building itself consists of the sandstone that occurs regionally here and is plastered white .

The prayer room and the chancel are separated from each other by a choir arch with a crucifix hanging down at its apex . Inside, the ceiling in the prayer room basically follows the line of the gable roof, but optically simulates a vault. There are colorful glass windows in the facade.

On the right (to the south) there is a small sacristy. A statue of St. Michael is located in a niche above the entrance to the chapel. This was created by Erich Winder, Alberschwende , 1982.

Furnishing

The pews are made of fir wood and kept simple. The chapel has an impressive high altar with several statues.

In front of the high altar is a popular altar with stylized columns on the left and right.

From 1899 there were two bells in the bell roof rider that were cast by the Grassmayr bell foundry from Innsbruck (Wilten). These were dedicated to Saint Michael and Saint Gabriel. During the First World War , these bells had to be delivered to be remelted into weapons. The bells were replaced in the 1920s, but had to be returned during World War II . and it wasn't until 1949 that new bells were raised again.
