Chapel of St. Rochus

The St. Roch chapel is in Pardé, a fraction of the municipality of Medel (Lucmagn) in the Val Medel in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

The small chapel with an extension of 6 by 4.7 meters is a rectangular room covered with stone slabs with a barrel vault. It is dedicated to the plague saint Rochus of Montpellier . The consecration took place on August 7, 1592 or 1593. Erwin Poeschel found the chapel unpainted around 1940; however, the painting was mentioned in a visitation report from 1658. The paintings by Hans Ardüser date from around 1593 and were uncovered during a restoration around 1980. The figures and symbols of the apostles, the Mother of God, angels and instruments of suffering are shown.

The altar is from more recent times, the rococo antependium was built around 1760. In the altar niche is a statue of St. Roch from around 1600. To the left of the altar is a small statue of St. Sebastian from the same period.

In the corner of the choir there are uninterpreted wall blocks that are connected to one another by a bench-like base. Poeschel suspects a base for benches.
