Chapel of the Savior in the Wies in Niederrieden

The Roman Catholic Chapel of the Savior in the Wies is located north of Niederrieden in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The chapel was built between 1789 and 1817 and is a listed building. A semicircular extension on the west side forms the dungeon of Christ . Inside this extension is closed by a wooden grille. There is one arched window in each of the side walls in the main room of the chapel. This is covered with a flat ceiling . The access to the chapel is on the east side through a arched entrance. There are a total of seven niches in the walls of the main room.

Furnishing

There are several wooden figures in the chapel. These all come from the time the chapel was built. Specifically, these are a larger-than-life dungeon Christ, four poor souls in a niche under the dungeon. In the wall niches of the main room there are passion groups, these are Christ with angels on the Mount of Olives, a scourged Savior with two henchmen, the crowning of thorns with two soldiers, the mocking of Christ with two secondary figures, the carrying of the cross with two soldiers, and Jesus' parting from Mary. In the chapel there is also a Vespers picture and two luminous angels. These are located above the dungeon niche.

The stalls also date from the time the chapel was built. The two rows with curved cheeks are made of softwood and have a simple design.
