Capital Fronsac (Gironde)
The capital in the church of St-Martin in Fronsac , a French commune in the Gironde department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region , dates from the Gallo-Roman period. In 1910, the capital was added to the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique .
The marble capital is 62 cm high and decorated with vegetable motifs. Presumably it comes from a Roman villa in the area, which could have been destroyed between the 6th and 8th centuries.
The capital has long been used as a holy water font.
