The Türbe under the base of the TID Tower

The Kapllan-Pascha-Türbe ( Albanian  Tyrbja e Kapllan Pashës ) is the mausoleum of Kapllan Pascha Toptani , who belonged to a local aristocratic family and who died in 1819. The octagonal tomb stands in the center of Tirana , the capital of Albania , a little east of Skanderbeg Square and the Et'hem Bey Mosque .

The Türbe was built from soft, white limestone in 1820 or the following years . It consists of eight round pillars connected by arches. The capitals are decorated with floral ornaments, but the Ottoman decoration is based on a Corinthian capital . There was an inscription on an arch, but it suffered badly from the weathering. The inscription refers to the death of Kapllan Pascha in the year 1235 AH , between October 1819 and October 1820. Türben of this type originally had a wooden roof. The structure is four meters high. Their diameter is only a few meters.

The Türbe stood in the vicinity of the Old Mosque , which was built in the 17th century and destroyed in World War II. This mosque, around which Tirana subsequently developed, was built by Sylejman Pasha . The Türbe with Sylejman Pasha's grave was attached to the mosque. The Kapllan-Pascha-Türbe is often incorrectly referred to as the Sylejman-Pascha-Türbe .

Kapllan Pasha Toptani was the ruler of Tirana when he died. His family, originally from Kruja , had long fought with other feudal ruling families for supremacy in the place; shortly after 1810 they were able to take over and consolidate supremacy. Kapllan Pascha Toptani, who was  allied with the Sublime Porte  and Ali Pascha Tepelena , subsequently tried to expand his sphere of influence. In 1819 he captured Ibrahim Bey Alltuni, the ruler of Kavaja . Ibrahim Bey Alltuni was his daughter's husband. She saved her husband by poisoning her father.

The Muslim tomb was declared a national cultural monument in 1948. The tombstone and the simple sarcophagus of  Kapllan Pasha were later removed. Maintenance work was carried out in 2016 on the Kapllan-Pascha-Türbe , which had long been in need of renovation. In 2007, construction of the TID Tower began on the adjacent property . The historic tomb is roofed over by a corner of the plinth of the new building: a circular recess in the building towers above the door. The Türbe was hidden behind building barriers for about ten years.
