Karađozbeg Mosque
The Karađozbeg Mosque (Croatian / Bosnian: Karađozbegova džamija ) in Mostar is a mosque in the predominantly Muslim eastern part of the city on Karađozbegova Street in Bosnia and Herzegovina .
history
The mosque was built in 1557 at the instigation of Mehmet Karađoz Beg, the brother of Grand Vizier Riistem Pasha , according to plans by the Ottoman architect Sinan . It was damaged in the Bosnian War , but has since been restored.
investment
The mosque, executed by masters from Dubrovnik , is built in the "classical" style on a square floor plan (side length 13.4 m inside) and has a large dome on an octagonal drum . It repeats the type of the destroyed Aladža mosque in Foča . However, their earlier lavish decoration is missing. The slender minaret has a stalactite gallery below the balcony. The vestibule at the front rests on four marble columns and is crowned by three small domes. There is a roofed fountain ( Šadrvan ) in the courtyard of the mosque . Next to the mosque there is a madrasah and a Muslim cemetery.
