Karate was an indie band strongly influenced by jazz , founded in 1993 by Geoff Farina, Eamonn Vitt and Gavin McCarthy in Boston . Within a year, Karate released their first 7 " , Death Kit , and in 1994 the band's first album, Karate .
In 1995 Jeff Goddard started as a bassist, Eamonn Vitt played the second guitar from then on and finally left the band in 1997 to become a doctor. After that, the remaining band members released In Place of Real Insight , shortly afterwards The Bed is in the Ocean . This album certainly best symbolizes the change in the band. The emo and indie influences are becoming less and less, karate is more oriented towards fixed song structures, the game now seems much more disciplined and is thus getting closer and closer to jazz .
In July 2005, due to Geoff Farina's hearing problems, karate was forced to break up. They played their last concert on July 10, 2005 in Rome . Until the dissolution, karate consisted of Geoff Farina (vocals, guitar), Jeff Goddard (bass) and Gavin McCarthy (drums).
All Karate releases appeared on the independent label Southern Records.
