Karachaganak gas field

Karachaganak is a large contiguous natural gas deposit with over 1.35 trillion cubic meters . It also contains 200 million tons of crude oil . It is located in Kazakhstan in the Western Kazakhstan region near the city of Aqsai .

The deposit was discovered in June 1979 and production started in 1984. The exploration is being carried out by Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO) . KPO is an international consortium consisting of Eni (32.5%), BG Group (32.5%), Chevron Corporation (20%) and Lukoil (15%).

Between January and November 2018, with 11.1 million tons of crude oil, the field was only just behind the Kashagan oil field in third place among the most productive oil fields in Kazakhstan.
