Karekin II. Kazanjian

Karekin II. Kazanjian ( Armenian Գարեգին Բ Գազանճեան , born May 18, 1927 in Istanbul ; † March 10, 1998 ibid) was Archbishop and Patriarch of Constantinople of the Armenian Apostolic Church .

Life

After completing his education at the Getronagan High School in Istanbul, Bedros Kazanjian (real name) entered the seminary of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem in 1949, was ordained a deacon in 1945 and a presbyter in 1950 . From 1946 to 1951 he worked as a teacher in Jerusalem . In 1951 he returned to Istanbul to work there in the training of priests. At the Holy Cross Seminar , which opened in 1953 , he was dean and professor of classical and modern Armenian literature.

In 1959 he went to the USA and became a pastor at the Armenian Church of St. Mary in Washington DC. He was ordained a bishop on October 24, 1966 . Until 1981 he was the first primate to lead the newly established Diocese of Australia of the Armenian Apostolic Church. From March 1981 to September 5, 1990 he was Grand Sacristan of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem and taught at the local seminary.

On October 13, 1990, he was appointed Armenian Patriarch of Constantinople and All of Turkey . On March 10, 1998, he died in the Armenian Savior Hospital in Istanbul ( Yedikule ).
