Karel Mácha

Karel Mácha (born January 2, 1931 in Dírná , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech / German historical philosopher and anthropologist .

Life

Karel Mácha studied political science, history and modern history of Czech philosophy at the Charles University in Prague from 1950 to 1954 . He then studied sociology, history of modern ideas and social anthropology at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (FÚ ČSAV) until 1957 . In 1958 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. After doing research at the academy, he completed his habilitation in 1962 at Masaryk University . In 1968 the Charles University in Prague appointed him Dr. scient.

In 1969 he was offered a professorship for the history of philosophy at Charles University. As a result of the crackdown on the Prague Spring, he lectured underground until 1978. In 1978 he emigrated to Germany and until 1986 was professor at the Institute for Christian World View and Philosophy of Religion at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich under Eugen Biser . In 1987 he also became a professor at the Polytechnic University of New York .

Since 1988 he has been a full professor of social philosophy at the Gustav Siewerth Academy in Weilheim-Bierbronnen and head of the sociology department. In 1986 he founded the Institute for Integral Anthropology in Munich.

After his professorship at Charles University in Prague was confirmed by President Václav Havel in 1990, he was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University.
