Karel Navrátil
Karel Navrátil (born April 24, 1867 in Prague ; † December 23, 1936 there ) was a Czech composer .
Life
After graduating from high school, Navrátil studied at the German Teachers Institute in Prague. He then studied violin with František Ondříček and musicology at the German University in Prague with Guido Adler , also in Vienna . In 1916 he returned to Prague, where he worked as a music teacher and composer. He was also a music advisor for the newspaper Národní republika , but also reported on Czech musical life for the US press.
His students include Helen Hopekirk (1856–1945), John Powell (1882–1963) and Alexander Winkler (1865–1935).
He composed two operas, a symphony and five symphonic poems, two piano concertos and a violin concerto, chamber music and piano pieces, choral works and songs.
