Karen Armstrong
Karen Armstrong (born November 14, 1944 in Wildmoor , Worcestershire , UK ) is a British religious scholar .
Life
She was a Catholic nun for seven years from 1962 to 1969 before she left her order and went to Oxford University . Among other things, she taught at the Rabbinical Seminary at Leo Baeck College and was awarded the Muslim Public Affairs Council Media Award in 1999. Karen Armstrong is currently one of the most renowned scholars of religion and has written numerous bestsellers on the history of religion, some of which have been translated into numerous languages. In 2008 she was honored in Middelburg with the Four Freedoms Award in the religious freedom category. In 2009 she received the Dr. Leopold Lucas Prize from the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen . For 2017 Armstrong was awarded the Princess of Asturias Prize .
