The Vernagt reservoir ( Lago di Vernago in Italian ) in the Schnalstal in South Tyrol is fed by the Schnalser Bach . The reservoir is 1689 m above sea level and has an area of approx. 100 ha.
The reservoir was created in the 1950s / 1960s. A 65 meter high dam was built. Eight courtyards in the village of Vernagt, which is now on the bank, sank into the reservoir . The spire of the "little ladder church" juts out of the lake in spring when the water level is low. In 2001 the dam was revised. The lake is the water intake for the Naturno hydropower plant . Above the reservoir is the Tisenhof mountain farm , which has been mentioned in a document since 1306 and belongs to the Our Lady fraction of the Schnals community .
