Muslim Public Affairs Council

The Muslim Public Affairs Council ( MPAC ; Muslim Council for Public Affairs is) an American Muslim organization headquartered in Los Angeles , California , and is based in Washington, DC The organization was founded in 1986 and is since 1988 under its current name.

The Muslim Public Affairs Council ( MPAC ) was established in 1986 as a political action committee of the Islamic Center of Southern California ( Political Action Committee of the Islamic Center of Southern California founded). Its president is Salam Al-Marayati .

In its history it has condemned the death fatwa against Salman Rushdie and the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon , while Osama bin Laden denounced the Taliban . Maher Hathout (1936–2015) from Egypt was one of the leading figures in the movement. Haris Tarin from Afghanistan is the former head of the Washington office. Salam Al-Marayati, Haris Tarin and Maher Hathout are among the later signatories of the Common Word Initiative

Karen Armstrong , among others, received the Muslim Public Affairs Council Media Award .
