Karen Polidano

Karen Polidano Zahra (stage name Karen Polidano ; born May 16, 1979 in Toronto , Canada ) is a Canadian - Maltese singer .

Life

Growing up in Toronto , her Maltese parents let her attend a Maltese heritage program in Canada once a week as a child. At the age of eight she made her first musical experiences, joined the school choir and soon became a soloist. At age 14, she attended the Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts to improve her singing skills. In the following years she played in various musicals such as Guys & Dolls , Anything Goes , The King and Me , Diana: Queen of Hearts , Little Shop of Horror and the pantomime Tarzan: Bored of the Jungle . When she was 16 years old, she moved with her family to Malta in 1995 , where she continued to perform in musicals. In Malta, she later attended the University of Malta .

In 1998 she took part for the first time in the Malta Song for Europe , the Maltese preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . Three years later she took again on the Malta Song for Europe and also on the L-Għanja tal-Poplu 2001 with the song Waslu L-Aljeni ( Eng .: The others have arrived), composed by Mark Spiteri Lucas, written by Felicienne Fenech Caruana and arranged by Joe Brown, part. A year later she took part again in the Malta Song for Europe and this time reached the 2nd place. In the same year she also took part in the Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza with the song L-Imgħoddi Mill-Ġdid (German: New from the past), composed by René Mamo and written by Joe Julian Farrugia. The following year she released her single Join the Party , composed by Ivan Scicluna and Colin Zammit Lupi and also written by Colin Zammit Lupi. She also took part in the Malta Song for Europe again and was able to qualify for the final there, as in previous years. In 2004 she did not succeed and she was eliminated in the semi-finals of the Malta Song for Europe. In 2005 she tried again and was able to qualify for the final.

Polidano is married and has one child. She works as a singing teacher.
