Kari Mäkinen (clergyman)
Kari Mäkinen (born January 5, 1955 in Pori ) is a Finnish clergyman. He was Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Turku until 2018 .
Life
Mäkinen studied Protestant theology in Finland after finishing school . After completing his studies, he worked as a vicar in the Ulvila parish . Mäkinen has been Bishop of Turku since 2006 . The office of bishops exists alongside the office of archbishop as a second established spiritual office in the Archdiocese of Turku.
In June 2010, Mäkinen was elected archbishop. He is thus head of the entire Evangelical Lutheran Church in Finland . He retired on June 1, 2018. Mäkinen is married to Eija Mäkinen. The couple have four children.
