Karigasniemi [ ˈkɑrigɑsniɛmi ] ( North Sami Gáregasnjárga ) is a village in the municipality of Utsjoki in Finnish Lapland . It is located 102 kilometers southwest of the community center of Utsjoki on the Finnish-Norwegian border river Inarijoki , which joins the Karasjokka a few kilometers further north and becomes the Tenojoki . Around 500 people live in and around Karigasniemi. The majority of the residents are Sami .

In Karigasniemi there is a bridge over the Inarijoki to Norway. The next larger town is Karasjok on the Norwegian side, about 20 kilometers away. Because of the lower price level, Karigasniemi attracts numerous Norwegian shopping tourists. On the Finnish side, main road 92 leads to Kaamanen in the municipality of Inari . This road connection was built by German soldiers during the Second World War . Originally, it formed the end of State Road 4 , but since 1993 it has led to Utsjoki. The river bank is followed by the regional road 970 downstream to Utsjoki and the unpaved road 9704 to the village of Angeli in the municipality of Inari.
