Karjalohja
Karjalohja [ ˈkɑrjɑlɔhjɑ ] ( Swedish. Karislojo ) is a former municipality in southern Finland . At the beginning of 2013 it was incorporated into the city of Lohja .
Karjalohja is located in the west of the Uusimaa countryside 85 west of the capital Helsinki and 30 kilometers west of the core city of Lohja. The former municipality of Karjalohja is rural and has an area of 163.4 square kilometers (of which 42.1 square kilometers inland water). The only settlement center ( taajama ) of Karjalohja is the church village of Karjalohja on the shores of Lake Puujärvi, where 597 people live (as of December 31, 2011). In addition to the parish village, the former municipal area includes the villages of Härjänvatsa, Ilmoniemi, Immola, Karkali, Kattelus, Kourjoki, Kuusia, Kärkelä, Lanviikki, Linhamari, Lohjantaipale, Maila, Makkarjoki, Murto, Mustlahti, Nummijärvi, Pappylujila, Pipkiä, Pyku, Pappylila , Saarenpää, Sakkola, Suurniemi, Särkjärvi, Talla and Tammisto. The last population of Karjalohja municipality was 1,474 (December 31, 2012).
The name Karjalohja (Karislojo) is derived from the neighboring towns of Karjaa (Karis) and Lohja (Lojo). In 1614 Karjalohja was raised to an independent parish . The old stone church of Karjalohja was built in 1860 and burned down in 1970 after a lightning strike. A new church was built next to the ruins of the old church. Today the old church is occasionally z. B. used for Christmas fairs. The Karkali Nature Park is located in the Karjalohja area. In addition to agriculture, tourism is an important industry. Many residents of Greater Helsinki have holiday homes in Karjalohja .
The description of the coat of arms of the former municipality of Karjalohja reads: In the blue shield there are three golden leaves in a three-pass arrangement and a six-pointed star hovers over them.
