Karl-Heinz Kniestedt

Karl-Heinz Kniestedt (born June 9, 1925 in Berlin ; † May 13, 1977 ) was a German politician (SEW) , SED functionary and member of the People's Chamber of the GDR.

Life

The son of a working-class family learned the trade of a chemical laboratory technician after attending primary school. During his apprenticeship he attended a private high school. He was drafted into the Wehrmacht and became a prisoner of war.

In 1949 he returned to Berlin, worked in the profession and became a member of the FDJ and the SED . He was the head of the first training facility for chemical workers in Berlin. From 1950 to 1958 he was the Berlin representative of the People's Chamber of the GDR. In 1951 he became a full-time employee of the SED district leadership Berlin-Treptow and in 1954 secretary of the FDJ district leadership Greater Berlin. On August 13, 1955, he was elected Secretary of the Berlin Representative Group in the People's Chamber.

From 1959 he was in the leadership of the West Berlin SED. Since November 1962 he was a member of the bureau and secretary of the party executive committee of the SEW and responsible for ideological questions, educational and cultural policy.
