Karl-Heinz Kuck

Karl-Heinz Kuck (born April 20, 1952 in Aachen ) is a German cardiologist. He was the chief physician of the cardiology department at the Asklepios Klinik St. Georg in Hamburg and now works as the head of the cardiology department at LANS Medicum Hamburg.

Life

Kuck passed his Abitur in 1970 at the Breuer Waldschulheim in Aachen.

From 1971 to 1976 he studied medicine at the University of Cologne , where he wrote in 1977 on the subject of “Methodological investigations for the quantitative evaluation of fibrinolytic activity in tissues: an investigation on d. Bovine fibrin plate ”.

1977 and 1978 he was assistant in the cardiology department of the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf , from 1978 to 1981 visiting doctor ("Fellow") in the department for electrophysiology of the University Hospital Limburg in Maastricht in the Netherlands. From 1981 to 1983 he trained as a specialist in internal medicine , and from 1983 to 1989 as a specialist in cardiology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). In 1985, Kuck completed his habilitation with a thesis entitled "Electrophysiology of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy". At the time, he was the youngest professor in Germany.

From 1985 to 1992 Kuck worked as a senior physician in the cardiology department at the UKE, from 1992 to 1994 he was provisional head of the cardiology department there.

From September 1994 to June 2019, Kuck was chief physician in the cardiology department at the Asklepios Klinik St. Georg in Hamburg. He was President of the European Heart Rhythm Association from 2013 to 2015 and took up the post of President of the German Cardiac Society at the 81st annual conference in Mannheim in April 2015 , from which he resigned on June 3, 2016

Since August 2019, Kuck has been a member of the management board of the Lanserhof Group from Austria, which operates health resorts. In addition, Kuck is the medical director of the cardiology department of LANS Medicum Hamburg, a center for sports and regeneration medicine in the Hanseatic city. His focus there is on outpatient heart medicine. Interventional interventions in the context of cardiac arrhythmias, coronary artery calcifications and valve pathologies are carried out by Kuck at the Lübeck University Hospital.

Kuck is divorced and has two daughters.

Karl-Heinz Kuck is a specialist in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, especially atrial fibrillation . He helped develop the method of catheter ablation , in which cardiac arrhythmias are combated by means of sclerotherapy.

Conviction for billing fraud and revocation of medical license

Since January 21, 2015, the Hamburg public prosecutor's office has been investigating Karl-Heinz Kuck on suspicion of “commercial fraud in a number that has yet to be determined”. In May 2016, Kuck was sentenced to one year imprisonment - suspended for two years on probation - and a fine of 100,000 euros for billing fraud. Because of this billing fraud, Kuck was withdrawn from his personal authorization for outpatient treatment of statutory health insurance patients. In October 2018, the Hamburg health authorities withdrew his medical license. At the same time, the Asklepios clinics announced the early termination of his service contract as of June 30, 2019. The Hamburg Administrative Court ruled that the withdrawal of approval was inadmissible.
