Karl-Heinz Russy

Karl-Heinz Russy (born June 26, 1937 in St. Ingbert ) is a former German table tennis player . He is considered to be the most successful player from Saarland to date.

Career

Karl-Heinz Russy began his career at TuS Rentrisch. On the initiative of the trainer Karl-Heinz Schreiner, Russy switched to 1. FC Saarbrücken where he is still active today (2015). With the men's team he played from 1966 to 1968 and 1973 to 1977 in the Bundesliga . At the Saarland state championships, he won a total of ten titles in singles, eight in doubles and one in mixed. At the Southwest German Championships he won three gold medals in singles and once in doubles. In 2003 he came second in the German senior championship in the age group 65+.

He was nominated for the national team six times. In April 1968, with three wins, he made a significant contribution to Germany's 5-4 victory over England. At the open Dutch championships in October 1968 he gave the Englishman Chester Barnes an exciting fight, which he lost in the decisive set with 28:30.

Until 2012, Karl-Heinz Russy worked as a trainer for the Saarland Table Tennis Association.

Karl-Heinz Russy was a decorator by profession.
